Questions about abdominal laparoscopic hysterectomy

Hi! I’m interested in getting an abdominal laparoscopic hysterectomy for myself. Are you allowed to wear underwear/an adult diaper during the procedure? I’m so nervous, and I don’t want to feel exposed. Also, if I’m having an abdominal laparoscopic hysterectomy, is there any way to ensure I don’t get an unwanted pelvic exam? Thank you!

Hello, in a laparoscopic hysterectomy, the uterus is removed through the vagina, so underwear cannot be worn. A uterine manipulator is also inserted vaginally to facilitate the procedure. Perhaps a subtotal hysterectomy (where the cervix is preserved) is an option for you to avoid vaginal manipulation. However, this is something you should discuss with your doctor.
