In Pain 10 Months after Excision Surgery

I had excision surgery last June performed by a top specialist in the US. I felt amazing until January of this year. I got back on birth control to help the pain but I have been suffering daily since January. Is it possible I’ve already had a reoccurrence in may need a second surgery? I’m back to not being able to function normally. Is taking birth control proven to slow the growth of endometriosis after surgery?

Thank you for sharing your medical history and current symptoms with us.

I understand that you underwent surgery for endometriosis in June of last year with a highly respected colleague, and that since January you have been experiencing pain again, despite using hormonal contraceptives.

When symptoms persist or recur within a short period after surgery, we usually consider a few possibilities:

  • Incomplete excision of the disease, meaning that some endometriotic lesions might not have been fully removed during the procedure;
  • Recurrence of the disease, although this tends to occur later and is less likely in such a short time frame;
  • Other causes of pelvic pain, such as adenomyosis, nerve-related pain, musculoskeletal conditions, or issues related to the bowel or bladder, which should also be explored.

To move forward safely and effectively, it’s important to reassess your case thoroughly—reviewing your imaging studies, your clinical history, and possibly requesting further tests. This will help us better understand the source of your pain and determine the most appropriate approach for you.

I’m available to support and guide you through this process, should you wish.

Warm regards,
Patrick Bellelis

Thank you! What other tests should I undergo? My surgeon said he did not suspect I have adenomyosis and it was not seen on any of my ultrasounds, my CT scan or my MRI. how can I treat nerve pain?
