For the last few years my periods have been becoming pain. I have noticed that I get my cramps anywhere between days 4 – 7 of my period. Is this normal or no?

Endometriosis affects approximately 10% of women in Florida, impacting their daily lives and overall well-being. This chronic condition, characterized by the growth of uterine-like tissue
First, let’s establish what is normal for your period. Normal cycle length is roughly 21-38 days (first day of your period to your next first day), regular (periods start within one week of your first day), and last up to 7-8 days.
You can have menstrual cramping come slightly before, during and/or after your period. What is important is that the bleeding is not too (1) heavy or (2) painful or (3) irregular.
Normal pain ranges from a 1-5 on a 10 point scale, with an average of 2-3/10 (10 being the worst). Most normal period pain is relieved with over the counter medications such as Tylenol or Motrin. Most importantly, this pain should not be to the degree where you are adjusting your normal life around (e.g. skipping work, moving dinner plans).
If symptoms are getting worse, I suggest going to your OB/GYN provider. They will assess the other parameters that I mentioned. Pain is something you feel and describe; therefore, if it’s severely impacting your life, be clear with your provider and advocate for yourself.
