What you should know about me: 

Celestine Compton, PT, DPT is a doctor of physical therapy with a board certified specialization in women’s and pelvic health. Dr. Compton is both Herman & Wallace and APTA trained in the areas of pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, myofascial mobilization, pregnancy and postnatal care. She has acted as a consultant and content developer for various websites and blogs related to women’s health and continues to enjoy writing on the subject. Dr. Compton enjoys working in the orthopedic setting and began developing her specialization in women’s health physical therapy following her experience in the Women’s March of 2017.

She continues to expand her knowledge and capabilities within the field of women’s health physical therapy in order to provide her patients and community with the best care, advocate for her profession on local and national levels, and support the advancement of women’s health through contributions to research, public awareness, and education. As part of the Origin team, she hopes to do her part to raise the standard of care that all women receive at every stage of life and to improve patient access to quality care so that no individual, regardless of location, race, identity, education, sexuality, or economic status is left behind.

Bev Miras, PT, DPT

Bev attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2017. Bev is experienced in treating patients with a wide range of orthopedic conditions as well as pelvic floor conditions including urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, and prenatal and postpartum musculoskeletal conditions. Bev’s continuing education includes female pelvic floor function, dysfunction & treatment and cancer rehabilitation. She is a member of the APTA in the Orthopedic, Pelvic Health, and Pediatric Physical Therapy sections.

Ever since a course in college introduced her to the history of women and community health and the barriers in accessing safe and preventative health care, Bev has been passionate about contributing to pelvic health and improving access to health care. As a physical therapist, she strives to help patients of all abilities achieve their goals. Bev highly values patient advocacy through promotion of education and overall health and wellness as well as providing health care for underserved populations.

Rachel is a southern California native who earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Baylor University after graduating with her BA in Critical Theory and Social Justice from Occidental College. Rachel is passionate about empowering patients to not only meet, but exceed their health and wellness goals. She is currently pursuing her Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification through Herman and Wallace. She is thrilled to be part of the Origin team and, when not in the clinic, she enjoys making her son laugh, traveling (and eating) around the world with her husband, surfing tiny waves, and getting zen in yoga.

Mariam was born and raised in Massachusetts, receiving a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and doctorate of physical therapy from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. What you should know about me: 

Laura Rubin was born and raised in Los Angeles, and she completed her undergraduate degree at Yeshiva University in New York City, where she majored in Biology. Laura then returned to sunny California to attend CSUN’s doctorate program in physical therapy.

Laura became passionate about women’s health physical therapy when she was pregnant during her second year of PT school. She was able to gain firsthand knowledge of pregnancy and postpartum while learning the foundations of physical therapy, and realized how vital the support PT provides can be to women in this stage of life.

Laura feels very fortunate to have completed her last clinical rotation at Origin, where she was able to delve into the world of pelvic health. Laura is extremely passionate about treating pregnancy and postpartum stages, as well as treating sexual, urinary, and fecal dysfunction.

Johanna Hanley, PT, DPT

What you should know about me: 

Johanna, originally from New York State, worked as a yoga instructor before pursuing her Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine-San Marcos, CA. With a background in orthopedic clinics as an aide and in her doctoral program, Johanna began to see how many pelvic health conditions went unaddressed, particularly for women, and sought out a clinical internship to gain pelvic floor experience. After graduating, she was able to continue treating patients for pelvic floor conditions in an outpatient orthopedic clinic.

Johanna was drawn to Origin because of a passion for providing accessible and inclusive Women’s Healthcare. She believes in collaborating with patients to understand their individual goals and give them the knowledge and support to achieve those goals. Johanna enjoys treating patients with a wide range of pelvic floor conditions from pelvic pain to bowel/bladder/sexual dysfunction to returning to activity postpartum.

What you should know about me: 

Anna is a proud California girl. Originally from San Jose, Anna ventured down the coast to study Human Development at UCSD. She became interested in physical therapy during her undergraduate studies when she volunteered at an outpatient orthopedic clinic. She loved being able to help people regain mobility and see their progress week to week. She decided to stay in San Diego to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine.

Her passion for women’s health physical therapy blossomed during a guest lecture at PT school about the pelvic floor. After that lecture, the spark was lit and her focus has been on women’s health and pelvic floor physical therapy ever since. Anna loves working with women who are pregnant, postpartum, or suffering from chronic pelvic pain. She enjoys being able to educate women about their anatomy and help them through very unique stages in their lives.

Lauren graduated with her Bachelors in Biology/Psychology and a minor in Spanish from Northwest Missouri State University in 2014 and received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Creighton University in 2017. ​Lauren is originally from Omaha, Nebraska and enjoys hiking, reading, volleyball, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Lauren became interested in pelvic floor therapy after having the opportunity to treat pelvic floor conditions in the outpatient orthopedic setting. She enjoyed seeing not just the physical but also the emotional benefits that the patients experience with pelvic floor rehab. Lauren understands that many diagnoses may cause a patient to feel uneasy and she strives to make each therapeutic experience as comfortable as possible to encourage open communication with her patients. Lauren’s focus is to improve her patient’s quality of life to allow them to return to the activities they enjoy.

April Smith, PT, DPT

What you should know about me: 

April began practicing in 2006. After many years as a physical therapist practicing in various settings, becoming specialized in pregnancy and postpartum was a natural evolution in her career, blending her physical therapy training to help in the birthing world. April has received her Certification of Achievement in Pregnancy and Postpartum (CAPP-OB) from the American Physical Therapy Association. She has also trained as a doula and enjoys teaching childbirth classes. Serving as a labor support professional has created a special blending of her physical therapy expertise with her training in the birth process.


Her clinical experience in orthopedic and pediatric physical therapy has helped her treat patients with often overlooked or missed pelvic floor dysfunction. She enjoys treating runner’s and assessing the biomechanics of movement and tailoring exercises unique to that individual. She has a passion for helping women return to run safely in postpartum. She enjoys learning and is always looking for the next course that will help her assist patient’s in meeting their goals.

Natasha received her Associates in Kinesiology and Health Sciences from Austin Community College, Bachelors in Sports and Exercise Science from Texas State University, and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Natasha moved to Austin in 2012 after receiving a contract to dance with Ballet Austin. Her passion for health and injury prevention began while utilizing Pilates during her profession as a ballerina. While in graduate school, Natasha discovered an affinity for pelvic physical therapy with emphasis on trauma recovery, chronic pain, and LBGTQ+ care. She would love to expand healthcare to folks undergoing gender affirmation procedures throughout all stages of transition. She is Pelvic Floor Level 1 certified through APTA, lumbopelvic dry needling certified, and has participated in several continuing education courses for trauma informed care and pelvic health.

Kimia Kardan received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Dance from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.

Kimia identified a need to open the discussion surrounding pelvic floor dysfunction, and hopes to make others more comfortable discussing it through her work. She strives to help each patient lead a healthier and happier life by creating an individualized and holistic plan of care. Her empathetic approach caters to patients’ needs by working with them to understand their diagnoses and the role of the mind-body connection during treatment.

Kimia has attended numerous pelvic health lectures and courses to broaden her knowledge and better serve her patients. She has also completed continuing education through Herman & Wallace Pelvic Institute.
